Shih-Hung Young

Shih-Hung Young, Chinese conductor and violinist from Taiwan, was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and later came to the United States. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and a Doctorate of Music from State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Young has been on faculty of The Juilliard School Pre-College Division since 1995.

An active conductor of symphonic, film scores and operas, and a performer of solo and chamber music recitals, Dr. Young serves as a conductor for Howard Shore’s Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings: Live to Projection & Lord of the Rings Symphony, Hans Zimmer’s award winning score Gladiator: Live,collaborating with Golden Globe winner Lisa Gerrard, and Nina Rota’s The Godfather Live. Having worked with orchestras in Munich, Czech Republic, Moscow, Melbourne, Perth Australia, Ravinia Festival in Chicago, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Jose California, Charleston, Milwaukee, Raleigh North Carolina, Bulgaria, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan Italy and Santiago Chile, Dr. Young has toured the United States and internationally. He was the conductor of the Chamber Orchestra at the Third Street Music School Settlement and the associate conductor/concertmaster of the US National tour of Tony-winning Broadway show The Light in the Piazza, My Fair Lady and Radio City’s Rockettes-Christmas Spectacular Arena Tour. Upcoming performances include concerts in Prague Czech Republic, Bratislava Slovakia, Paris France, Houston Texas, Spain and Germany.
