Still in his thirties, British conductor Timothy Henty is quickly developing a strong international reputation both in the theatre and on the concert platform.
Orchestras he has conducted include the Royal Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the RTÉ National Symphony, Royal Scottish National Symphony, BBC Scottish Symphony, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Ulster Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Goiás, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Het Gelders Orkest, Holland Sinfonia, Malmö Opera Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
His opera and operetta credits include Iolanthe (English National Opera), Madama Butterfly (Nederlandse Reisopera), Mike Leigh’s The Pirates of Penzance(ENO/Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg/Théâtre de Caen), Ruddigore(Opera North), L’Elisir d’amore(Dorset Opera Festival),The Mikado (Royal Festival Hall, Symphony Hall Birmingham and Bridgewater Hall Manchester, HMS Pinafore(Carl Rosa Opera), Hip-Hip! Horatio(Jubilee Opera at Aldeburgh), La Traviata (King’s Theatre),A Man of Feeling (Arcola), Florodora,Our Miss Gibbs (Finborough), Trial by Juryat the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival.
Timothy Henty conducts live screening performances across the world and is particularly delighted to have a developed relationship with CineConcerts, for whom he has conducted Harry Potter in Concert, Star Trek: The Ultimate VoyageandThe Godfather: Live. Further credits include Brief Encounterat the Cork Film Festival, and he acted as rehearsal conductor for the world premiere of Titanic: Live, working with its late composer, James Horner.
Timothy began his career as a conductor for dance and in 2006, was made a Guest Conductor of The Royal Ballet. He has maintained a strong interest in this field, conducting for Dutch National Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet, Ballett Basel, Skånes Danstheater and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.
In 2008 he collaborated with Anthony Baker to create a new performing version of Gilbert and Sullivan’s lost opera Thespis which received wide critical praise and has now enjoyed seven productions internationally to date.
His television appearances include The One Show, The Andrew Marr Show(BBC) and Gilbert and Sullivan – A Motley Pair(SkyArts).
Born in Kent, Timothy Henty won a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music, where he won the Tagore Gold Medal: the RCM’s highest award for its most outstanding student, presented to him by HRH The Prince of Wales.
